Carnival has arrived in Italy and all around Rome, pastry shops are baking a wide arrangement of delicious fried sweets for young and old alike. One of my favorite desserts of Carnival is the Frappe, which are fried pieces of dough with confectionary sugar sprinkled on top. Sometimes instead of using confectionary sugar, the frappe are dipped in chocolate. Thankfully these delectable delights can easily be made at home!
Recipe:
500 grams of flour, 50 grams of butter, 2 spoonfuls of sugar, 2 eggs+ 1 egg yolk, pinch of salt, 1 cup of white wine, 1 grated lemon, vegetable oil or corn oil, confectionary sugar.
Mix together, 500 grams of flour with 50 grams of butter, 2 spoonfuls of sugar, 2 eggs+ 1 egg yolk, pinch of salt, 1 cup of white wine, and 1 grated lemon. Leave the dough to rest until it has hardened up a bit. Roll the dough out and put into the pasta machine, run the dough through the machine until it is nice and thin. Cut into rectangles or in any shape you like. Fry the frappe in a large pan with a good amount of vegetable oil or corn oil (make sure the oil is nice and hot). Once fried take out of pan and place on plate with paper towels to absorb the left over oil. Then sprinkle confectionary sugar on top. Or you can melt chocolate and dip the frappe into the chocolate.
