Christmas is definitely arriving in Italy, decorations are going up, the market in Piazza Navona is running, and holiday sweets are in bakery windows for all to see and crave. This past weekend (November 24-25) the Congress Center near the Spanish Steps held a Panettone* and Pandoro** fair.
Three large rooms were filled with different types of these christmas cakes along with other goodies too and all for tasting.
*Panettone is a type of sweet bread loaf that originates from Milan, in northern Italy. It contains candied orange, citron, and lemon zest, as well as raisins.
**Pandoro is a traditional sweet bread that originates from the Veneto region. It is often served dusted with powdered sugar.
